Q. What is your definition of Assisted Living?

A. Assisted living is a way to provide care to people who are having difficulty living independently, but do not need skilled medical care or daily nursing services as found in a nursing home. Assisted living is a special combination of personalized supportive services and health care designed expressly for seniors who require some assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming and medication management.

Q. What health care services are available?

A. Assisted Living Centers, Inc. is licensed to provide three levels of care. These levels of care range from minimal assistance with daily living skills to care and assistance for residents with dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease and/or requiring assistance with several daily living skills including medication management. To ensure that each resident is receiving the services they require, the Assisted Living Centers, Inc. staff will routinely coordinate the plan of care with the resident’s physician and assist the residents in following their instructions.

Q. Can Assisted Living Centers, Inc. care for residents who utilize wheelchairs or walkers?

A. Yes. Assisted Living Centers, Inc. can care for residents who use wheelchairs, walkers, canes and other ambulatory assistance devices. Each of our homes is handicap-accessible. Our staff provides as much assistance as needed in order to enable participation in all aspects of activity.

Q. What is Assisted Living Centers, Inc. approach to Assisted Living?

A. At Assisted Living Centers, Inc., the focus is on the individual. We take an approach which embodies all aspects of the resident’s life – physical, emotional, spiritual and social well being. This is why Assisted Living Centers, Inc. specializes in offering our residents a 15 bed “social” model. In this way, our staff can better focus on the personalized needs of the individual in a home environment.

A Care and Service Plan is personalized for each resident following discussion with the resident, their family, physician and our professional staff. Routinely, we review the plans and make any adjustments as needed. We strongly believe and promote the resident’s right to make their decisions based upon sound mind regarding treatment, care, activities and services that are adequate and appropriate.

Q. How is staff selected and trained?

A. Our selection process starts by recruiting only those who have a sincere concern for and interest in serving the needs of the senior resident. All new staff participate in sensitivity training and other programs that prepare them for handling the needs of the each resident in a respectful manner, ensuring the resident’s dignity while providing compassionate, professional care.

Q. Can Assisted Living Centers, Inc. accommodate residents with various forms of memory impairment?

A. Assisted Living Centers, Inc. has dedicated its Memory Lane at Slade Manor home to provide for residents with Alzheimer’s and related memory disorders. This is a secured home that is designed to handle the special needs of the resident through a personalized Care and Service Plan to enrich the quality of life for the resident. Our professional staff at this home has received training though the Central Maryland Alzheimer’s Association in caring for the unique needs of the resident.

Q. What are your fees and what is included?

A. Though your due diligence you will quickly learn that the basic services and monthly fees for assisted living facilities vary greatly. At Assisted Living Centers, Inc., we prefer to offer an “all-inclusive” fee structure which encompasses room and board, and the majority of services and care we provide. Not covered in our monthly fee is actual physician and medication costs, the cost of transportation and/or an accompanying staff member that we provide for a resident’s scheduled appointment and personal toiletry items.

Monthly fees are determined by a combination of the resident’s Level of Care, which Assisted Living Centers, Inc. home they will be living in and which room will be occupied.
